Yassan was pleased to announce that a special feature on GPS art was published across an entire page in the August 20 issue of the “Yomiuri KODOMO Shimbun,” a newspaper for elementary school students. For this feature, he cooperated in the production by participating in preliminary interviews and providing his artworks to explain the mechanics and appeal of GPS art.

The article showcases some of his past works, such as “Sharaku (Otani Oniji III as Edobei)” and “Dove (Hatogaya),” as representative examples of GPS art. The newspaper visually and clearly introduced to children how complex ukiyo-e lines and community-rooted motifs are drawn on a map.
Also the “Oekaki Navi” that an app for making GPS art developped by Japan GPS Art Association was showcased.

While utilizing the latest digital technology (GPS), GPS art is created by actually walking through the town with your own feet. He believes it is a highly meaningful activity, serving as a new form of expression and an opportunity for children to take an interest in the geography and history of their local communities.

He hopes this article will contribute to the learning and discoveries of children nationwide, whether as a theme for their summer independent research projects or as a hint for family explorations of their local areas.
